Micro machining

I'm evaluating HSMAdvisor with regards to my Bantam Tools Desktop Milling Machine which almost exclusively uses 1/8" endmills and has a very limited spindle power (0.125kW). I'm wondering if HSMAdvisor is fit for my needs as it seems those small endmills require a different approach in calculating deflection and the same applies to limited horse power machines.
As an example, according to HSMAdvisor I could be able to slot DOC 1mm into aluminium with 3 flute 1/8" carbide endmill at above 1100mm/min at 26000RPM, but this is way above the recommended settings of 16400RPM at 1500mm/min DOC 0.05mm.

I'm just wondering...

Honestly the best way to figure it out is to try some test cuts at increasing depths and see how that goes.

Chances are you would need to build a torque curve to accurately compensate for power variations at different RPM.

Another thing to consider: some manufacturers list incorrect maximum motor power. So you likely will have less that they promise.

Thanks Eldar for your quick answer,
but please allow me to rephrase my question: is your software generally used in combination with high torque spindles with thicker endmills (1/4" and above) or does your user base also include a decent number of hobbyists with low power and small endmills?

I do like your software and I'm willing to buy a license, but I wish to be sure it is fit for my needs: as a hobbyist, I don't have much money to invest and I need to use it the best way I can.

Hi,

Well if you put it that way. Then NO.

My software out of the box assumes you have the best conditions possible. That you use coolant and sufficient chip removal. It is up to users then to adjust cutting parameters based on their results.

It assumes machine is rigid and cutting forces do not cause positive loop or resonance issues sufficient to break anything.

Although I have lots of users with sub - 0.75kW spindles and small cutters, I can not promise you it will work in your particular set up. This is why you have 30 day trial to figure that out. If anything just to compare how your own experience matches the suggested results.
