What does the slotting option do?

I have not been able to find a description of the "Slotting" checkbox, in either text or video. I suspect the effect will be to reduce feedrate because the cutter is cutting on both sides, or do something to improve chip removal, but I would like to have your advice for how to use it. I'm trying to engrave 6061 aluminum with a 1mm endmill and the first cuts of what turn into pockets are always slots. "It would be nice" if my CAM software could differentiate between the first and subsequent passes, but it cannot. I'm guessing that the conservative thing to do is to select slotting for the entire project.

Hi, That is exactly right. Because most of the cam software do not consider slotting passes when pocketing something special, the checkbox is also called Slot/Pocket. the name implies it should be used whenever you do slotting or regular old-style pocketing. Exception of the rule are HSM-style toolpaths where CAM controls engagement at any point of the toolpath and prevents tool overloading. Regards.
