v1.503 trial first run

Hi,

I used to use fsw:online a lot, and since it is down now, I downloaded hsmadvisor 1.503. I did try it a few years ago, the but online interface seemed much simpler. I see that interface has been changed in the meanwhile - it's great!

I noticed few things (I did not read the manual, of course):

Machine Definition
- reopening dialog does not remember that mm units were selected
- tab order is weird
- there are probably rounding errors when converting units (max power, max torque, max feed), click Save (save changes confirm) and max power changes to correct value :)
- after adding a new machine, it's not automatically selected on main screen (I assumed it will be)

On fresh install (tried it on real WinXP PC and in virtual WinXP on Linux), after creating machine definition, software seems to lock to certain rpm and gives warnings about the max rpm, feed, and sometimes torque being exceeded (and rpm reduced). After hitting "reset" button and re-entering data in tool data section things go to normal. Uninstall does not remove machine definition/form data, so I removed them manually to recreate the issue and reinstalled. Screenshots attached.

Other minor stuff:
Does tool stick-out=flute length+shoulder len. ? If so, maybe it should be automatically updated too...
#flutes spin edit - up/down cursor keys do not work correctly
Tab order of Cut Data section (DOC should be first, WOC second?)
Link to download dotnet2 leads to ms download page for dotnet4...

I hope this helps you.
Best regards,
Mihael

Hi,

Thank for the tips!
Most of these are known "features" and now that someone posted on this forums I will have to fix them....

I will also look at the "fresh install weirdness".
Perhaps it is because you ran a very old version before and it picked up the last settings file.

Shoulder length is the distance from the tip to where shank begins.
It was added for compatibility with MasterCam and does not affect anything at the moment.

Thank you.

Best regards.
