Trochoidal / peel

I see on the download page it mentions torchoidal / peel milling, but I fail to see in the software how it is done? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,

Please check out this article and let me know if it clears things up for you:

Best regards!

Thank you for that! But I think I am still missing something. I do think I understand the principles noted in the article and how they relate to trochoidal milling, even though it is not mentioned. But at the same time I think my machine parameters may limit any effect of ticking those boxes. For example, with trochoidal milling, I would expect DOC to increase, twice or more of the tool diameter, but that parameter does not change at all.

Hi,

All those Chip Thinning and HSM check boxes do it tell HSMAdvisor to consider WOC when calculating chip load and cutting speed.

DOC and WOC do not change on their own.

You need to specify the DOC according to your preferred depth of the feature or a pass. Then you need to specify 7-10% WOC.

Also Speeds and Feeds will change only if there is any chip thinning possible (at WOC < 30%). If you are slotting, Chip Thinning/HSM boxes will have no effect.

Also Also. Yes your parameters may further be adjusted by your machine settings. If you don't have enough power, HSMAdvisor will suggest DOC according to that.

Best regards.
