Material hardness vs cutting parameters
Hi Eldar, We have to machine 4340 but hardened to 42Rc. How should i alter the parameters recieved from hsm advisor? Is there any general formula?

Hi, Sorry for delay. Somehow totally missed the email notificatuion. For specific hardened steels, that are not in the list, i suggest using a H13 hardened steel material type with comparable hardness. Regards.

The unit power that HSMAdivsor uses for endmilling 6061 T6 aluminum is about twice that used by both the Kennametalhttps://www.kennametal.com/en/resources/engineering-calculators/end-milling-calculators/force-torque-and-power.html and GWizard calcultors. Why?

Sorry for posting here - it seemed like the most appropriate place since I couldn't figure out how to create a new thread. How do I do that? As shown below, HSMAdvisor predicts more than twice as much power is required to endmill slots in 6061 T6 aluminum under identicfal conditions.

Kennametal uses 0.29 HP/(cuin/min) for 2024 Aluminum and 0.2 HP/(cuin/min) for 6061 T6. HSMAdvisor uses 0.29 HP/(cu.in.)/min. in the turning calculator and 0.44 HP/(cu.in./min) in the endmilling calculator!

Hi, After some research modifications were made to the engine that calculates power AND Aluminum materials got power requirements reduced. So in total Aluminums lost about a third of the Pk value. Please download and install the update. Thank you very much for your feedback and patience!
