Cross section

Hello again,

I use a mill 10 mm diam, WOC = 2.9 mm. This results in a WOC of 29%. But, in the 'Cutting data' view I see 'Cross section : 0.41 Dia'

Am I missing something?

Serge

Hi,

Cross Section is the cress-section area of the cutter that is engaged with the workpiece.

If you were slotting 10mm deep with a 10mm end mill, your engagement would be 1 Dia.
Many machinists have rules of thumb regarding how much engagement in diameters of the cutter they want for various operations.

Regards.
