Also the same question for grooving and boring. What diameter would you enter if the part is tapered?

the final diameter is the Turn Diameter. Because of variable diameter of the workpiece, Cutting speed is often the most useful value. And CNC lathes are most often programmed in CSS (constant surface speed) mode. But when diameter varies and you still wish to use RPM value, you should use the biggest diameter that tool will cut. IE. When cutting a groove, enter the biggest diameter of the WP.
