Chip load

Hi,

When selecting a tool, the proposed chip load is twice the amount defined in the 'Custom Speeds and Feeds' for the tool, unless I lower the 'Feed Adjustment' to 50%. Why is that?

Thanks,

Serge

Hello,

I don't see this issue.

Can you attach the screenshots of your tool and cutting data set up?

Best regards.

The 10 mm tool has a chip load of 0.055 mm.

With 100% Feed adjustment:

With 50% Feed adjustment:

So, the question is why HSMAdvisor doubles the value by default?

Thanks,

Serge

Hello,

I got another update.

What happens is you have a very shallow depth of cut on soft material, so HSMAdvisor bumps up the feed rate by 100%

You can verify it by clicking on the DOC label to have is set a default DOC, which would give you the chip load you have entered in the "Manufacturer" table.

This is normal behavior.

Best regards.

Oh, you are right Eldar.

Maybe a suggestion... Place an indicator (exclamation mark) next to the chip load field and add a warning in the warning list box.

Thanks,

Serge

I’ve been thinking…
1. Isn’t the transition from 100% chip load to 200% a bit drastic? Why not go from 100% to 200% in a linear way from your trigger depth to depth of cut 0?
2. Isn’t there a difference for speeds and feeds depending on conventional or climb cutting?
Thanks,
serge

Hi,

It does increase gradually depending on the hardness of the material and the difference between the ideal doc and the reduced doc.

I will look at adding the warning in the warnings tab because it can be confusing.

Thank you.
