Machining 4140 PH Speeds and Feeds

December 10, 2015, 3:10 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

Sometimes I get asked whether hsmadvisor CNC Machinist Calculator is reliable enough out of the box.

I and many others test it at work every day. This 2"x1.5"x1.25" 4140 PH piece was programmed on masterscam with hsmadvisor speeds and feeds with all overrides set to default.

Worked out fast and awesome. As usual!

Perfect Ballnose Engraving Speeds and Feeds in Production Environment

December 6, 2015, 12:38 am by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)
ballnoses_stepover.png

I regularly follow practicalmachinist.com forums.
Especially the cnc machining section of it.

I notice when CNC Speeds and Feeds questions come up people often suggest my HSMAdvisor Machinist calculator.
A referral by a satisfied customer is the best referral in my opinion. Thank you to everyone doing this great favor to me and my prospective users!

Other times users of HSMAdvisor question speeds and feeds it generates and instead of going to me, they ask on forums.
Which is always fine, because extremely often "wrong" results mean something wrong in users expectations or the data he feeds the calculator

In the process of discussion it usually turns out that the calculation results were correct, but because user decided to use a depth of cut or tool length, larger than he should have, HSMAdvisor compensates and gives a very conservative feed rate.

Just like in this forum post over here: Engraving with a 1/32 ball mill machinist wanted Read More

September 20, 2015, 3:26 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

Quote:
Zero_Divide's FSWizard speed and feed calculator is the latest professional-grade mobile calculator to hit the i0S and Android stores.

For those who aren't happy with the accuracy of the speeds and feeds generated by their CAM software, FSWizard may be your solution. Like a Swiss army knife, it also includes a toolbox of essential charts and standalone calculators to make life easier for machinists.

Check it out here: http://www.engineering.com/CAM/ArticleID/10667/First-Look-Speed-and-Feed-Calculations-Go-Mobile-with-FSWizard.aspx

Can not say it gave me an immediate influx of new sales (although every bit helps!). I guess most of the sales are driven through this web site and the buzz around HSMAdvisor Advanced Speed and Feed Calculator or the free FSWizard:Online calculator.

The. First. Ever. HSMAdvisor hook for MasterCAM X9

August 2, 2015, 7:06 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

The First Ever HSMAdvisor Speed and Feed Wizard hook for MasterCAM has been released today for everybody to download for free.

Getting it to this stage has been a titanic effort for me and I am going to put a lot more of it in the coming months: i need to get it to pretty much perfect state before i start forgetting how i did all those things.

Because of this each update i release will extend trial period by 30 days.

This will last for as long as needed to finish the bulk of developing it.

At this moment the following toolpaths are fully recognized:

  • Face Mill
  • Contour
  • Pocket
  • Drilling
  • Circle Mill
  • All 2D HST Toolpaths:
    Dynamic Milling
    Dynamic Area
    Blend Mill
    Peel Mill

The only exception is: Coolant parameters are getting lost somewhere in the process. So please double check it before posting!

Things to be added in the coming days/weeks/months:

  1. Fix Coolant
  2. Engraving
  3. Other Circular Toolpaths such as ThreadMilling etc.
  4. Conventional and HST 3D Toolpahs
  5. Turning

If you have any suggestions or find any bugs please let me know.

I would like to reassure my current customers that HSMAdvisor Hook is/will be included with your license once this all is set and done.

Please help me with your suggestions/bug reports make this thing even better for all of you!

Here are the latest 2 videos i uploaded to my Youtube chanel

Calculating cutting parameters for Face Milling, Saving Tool and Cut data and recalling it when needed:

Cheers. And a huge "thank you" to everyone who has been supporting me!

HSMAdvisor v1.146 released

March 29, 2015, 9:08 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

We have one major feature in this release and a lot of small improvements:

Starting form this update every HSMAdvisor installer and executable file will be digitally signed.
This will keep both your IT guy and your Antivirus Program happy.

I made a decision to invest into signing my executables because users were complaining about AV programs like Norton shutting down my software.

You can download the latest version in our downloads section

What's New:

  • Digital signing added to the executable files
  • Maximum Tapping RPM added to the Machine Definition dialog to recognize the fact that tapping speed is often a lot smaller than the maximum spindle speed available on most machines.

Improvements:

  • Major work is being done to translate HSMAdvisor to other languages
  • Typos fixed all over the place
  • Machine Definition dialog functions improved
  • Thread Milling tool type now includes DOC and WOC fields
  • Cutting speeds for several materials have been adjusted
  • Fixed condition where restoring the window in "Narrow" mode would cause controls to disappear until Maximize button was pressed
  • Tool drop-down box now better scales and crops extra-long values to make room for all columns

FSWizard 1.40 Released

February 14, 2015, 9:47 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

I have just finished uploading the latest update for FSWizard apps to both iOS and Android stores.

Your iOS update should be available in about 3 to 5 days, while it is already available on Google Play.

As always my thanks go to Apple for killing 90% of my day on trying to find and fix stupid xCode quirks.
Thanks, apple guys! I wouldn't know what to do with all of my time if your stuff worked the way it was supposed to!

Here are just some of the changes in the latest version v1.40

  • Added new materials
  • Fixed Turning MRR/HP Calculation
  • Fixed Sticky Lead Angle
  • Changed WOC label in Turning mode to DOC

HSMAdvisor Status Update

December 23, 2014, 6:09 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

First of all Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !

There has been a spur in development in the last couple of weeks.
Mainly due to the fact that i took a vacation from my day job.

I also used this time to pay a visit to some businesses operating in the area to get some feedback on my software, hear out their needs and desires.

I have not been able to post about the latest updates, so let's summarize what we have at this moment in the latest v1.110 update

  • New 90 Degree metric Flat Head screw reference tool
  • Ability to use comma sign instead of dot as a decimal point.
HSMAdvisor will still convert comma to dot, but now it treats input properly
This was done to accommodate users whose language settings use comma on their numpad
  • Fixed scaling for all DPI types.
  • Added a bunch of materials like Machinable Wax, Plywood, some Steels etc.
  • Improved and made more predictable loading of tools and cuts from the database
  • Made improvements to Machine definition window.

Most of the work has been finished on the CAM integration feature.
If any of you, my users, feel like you want the FREE integration with their favorite CAM, please nag your CAM support and/or sales desk!!

........

........

Now did I mention I plan on NOT changing a dime for the integration feature?

If not, then let me repeat it again.

CAM Integration feature will come at no price for my users!

So if i were you, i would file support tickets (make some phone calls, write letters) to your CAM providers and ask them to consider enabling their software to speak with mine.

My contact details can be found here: http://hsmadvisor.com/index.php?page=help&shell_id=241&article_id=4426

Have a nice New Year!
