Another Week left on this sale! What's to come?

July 27, 2014, 10:42 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

The current "15% Off HSMAdvisor" sale will run until August 4th.

Which here in Ontario is a statutory holiday.

I am not really sure what we are celebrating, but hey, as long as i get paid for staying at home, i don't care.

Just wanted to thank everyone for great support, for investing into YOUR software and for telling your friends and colleagues about it.

I strongly believe our pricing and conditions are VERY competitive and more and more of you agree with me on that every day. I am not even talking about the part that should You need anything improved, fixed or questions answered, i am always available.

I also wanted to let you in in what is coming regarding HSMAdvisor Speed and Feed software.

  • The next course of action for me will be adding surface finish calculators to the FSWizard page.
I have received a few requests for that, and about to start rolling those out.
  • I will revisit myCut DB page.
Tool database will have filters, that would allow users to only see the tools they need.
You will be able to choose what tool table columns you want to see.
I will add tool manager window that will allow to quickly show which tools need to be ordered. And create a purchase order right on the spot. Which you would be able to either export to excel, Word or just print out right away.
  • I am still bearing the idea of a so-called group knowledge.
I am not going to discuss what exactly i am thinking about. But this, if implemented would radically improve decision-making when it comes to machining.
This last part is going to be the hardest one and involve great deal of plain hard work, so i am going to put it on a back-burner for now.

As you see we have lots more to come. And we are not even on to version 1.0 !

And the best part is, if you pitch in now, you will be able to enjoy all the updates and features i am talking about for free!

Take care.

Have a save work week!

HSMAdvisor v0.830

July 27, 2014, 7:13 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

I have just uploaded a pretty big update to HSMAdvisor. Check it out on DOWNLOAD page!

In this update i have completely redesigned the way Tool and Cut Drop-Down lists work.

Now Information is diaplyed in neat columns and rows. Rows also alternate in color.

But wait, there is more!

You can also now change the order and the type of information displayed in these Drop-Down lists!

Just Right Click on either Tool or Cut DropDown list to choose the visibility of any column:

You can use Up and Down buttons to re-order columns in a way that pleases your eyes.

New Things:

  • Redesigned Tool and Cut dropdown lists on the FSWizard page
Ability to not only choose the kind of data displayed in the lists, but also order of columns.
  • Added "Generic" switch to the Tool Information Dialog that allows to create tools with editable cutter geometry (can change things like diameter, flute lengths etc.)
  • Added NITRONIC 50-60 and ToughMet 2-3 to material list.

Improved Things:

  • Fixed faulty in/mm conversion for saved metric cuts
  • Adjusted cutting speeds for some stainless steels

HSMAdvisor v0.822

July 12, 2014, 5:06 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

A latest update to HSMAdvisor is available right now in the downloads section!

The main new thing is ability to assign custom or Tool Manufacturer-recommended Speeds and Feeds to tools saved in the database.
Please refer to this tutorial for a detailed walk-through on how this can be accomplished.

Why have manufacturer-recommended speeds and feeds when my calculator already does pretty much the same thing?
Simply because cutter geometry and composition varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. And tools made by different companies often vary in quality and performance.

Even things like cutter material and coatings vary in hardness and toughness.

Aside from this major update, little bugs were fixed.

Fixed and Improved:

  • New "Speed and feed source" indicator disappearing problem solved.

  • Fixed limits for drilling, taping and turning.

  • changed layout for Reference Calculators

Edit: I just uploaded a video showing how to add custom Speeds and Feeds to youtube.

Manufacturer-Recommended Speeds and Feeds in HSMAdvisor

July 12, 2014, 3:34 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

One of the latest additions to HSMAdvisor speed and feed calculator is the ability to set manufacturer-recommended speeds and feeds for work-piece materials and groups of materials.

Here is a YouTube video walk-through showing how to add S&F tables into the program https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJOgWfgy99U

HSMAdvisor uses Brand Name and Series Name to assign speed and chipload tables to tools.

A new "Speed and Feed Source" (S&F Source) indicator has been added to quickly tell user which speed and feed table is being used right now.

HSMAdvisor v0.760

April 1, 2014, 9:08 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

Happy April Fool's day!

Seriously though, i have just published another update.

This update adds a floating Speed and Feed mini-window that stays on top and displays most relevant information to help users with populating S&F values on their CAM software.

To show/Hide this window, click the red-and-white "Float" button in the status bar.

Upon right mouse click on the floating window you can choose what kind of information you would like to display in there.

Also one bug was fixed where when no machine was selected from the drop-down list, deflection and torque limits were not firing for milling and drilling tools.

But wait! There is more!

I will not open all my cards, but right now i am working on a massive update to HSMAdvisor's Tool Database.
Keep tuned in.

HSMAdvisor v0.750 Update

March 13, 2014, 10:10 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

More goodies for our HSMAdvisor users!

I have just uploaded an update that allows several computers running HSMAdvisor to share the same database.
Please check out Tutorials section for more info on how it works and how to turn it on.

I have been bearing this idea for quite some time, but HSMAdvisor user Kevin E. (koodos!) sent me an email and suggested that i finally implement it.
He has almost a dozen CAM computers in his shop and he and his co-workers frequently change workstations.
Obviousy in this kind of setting it would be hard to keep importing/exporting yout tooling data without loosing anything.

Before you go ahead, however, please make sure you create a backup copy of your database yto prevent possible data loss should anything go wrong.

Also several things were improved and fixed.

First of all, Automatic Registration that allows users with multiple purchased seats request and receive their license key online on-demand has been fixed.
All 2 accounts with keys wrongfully issued this way were fixed :)

I also improved the way Tools and Cuts are loaded into the calculator.
Before there was a bit of confusion when loading tools from myCutDB page- speed and feed overrides would pick up wrong values - now it is fixed.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me with their suggestions and feedback.

Improved HSMAdvisor 0.740

February 24, 2014, 1:18 am by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

This update is mainly a bug fix and has some usability improvements.

New Things

  • Persistence in Threads Tab
Now Threads Page will stay the way you left it when you shut down the program
  • Persistence in column selection for Drill Chart for both the Treads Page and Tap Tool on FSWizard Page as well.
  • Capture Wizard can now capture target windows with dynamic controls. (Still working on SprutCAM integration profile that required this feature)

Fixed and Improved things

  • Tapping tools had a bug in metric mode. Now it is fixed
  • Text color for selected row in myCut Database page is now white on blue background. Which makes things easier to see.
  • Capture Wizard is now a lot faster and should be less prone to hang ups.
  • Improved Machine Limits behavior
Power Overload now causes feedrate to reduce.

HSMAdvisor v0.735

February 7, 2014, 11:01 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

Version v0.735 has just been released.

We now have 2 new tool types: Counterbore and Chamfer Mill.
They were added to match with similar tools in most CAM packages

Also we now have tool simulation graphics in the Results' area new Tool tab.

Here is a simulation of the new Chamfer Tool type:

Capture Wizard now has Tab Name field that allows Wizard to only capture the Target window when selcted tab is active.

Also Detault Tool Type, Tool Material and Tool coating fields were added.
you can now specify which tool will be picked if Wizard fails to recognise the tool type.

Oh pardon me!

Forgot to mention: We now have Surfcam 5.2, BobCAD-CAM v25 and v26 integration profiles.
you can load those from Profile manager tab on Capture Wizard form.

On a side note somebody from SprutCAM has asked me to create a profile for their package.
Looke like they have demo available for download, so i will probably do that very soon.
As far as I know, I do not really have any customers using that CAM.

But hey, Things change!

FERRUM D Gentile Creates beatiful work of art!

January 21, 2014, 12:15 am by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

We all love getting positive feedback on anything we do.

For example hearing "good job" from our bosses. Or "nice work" from our co-workers....
Okay, Okay bosses do not normally tell anyone "good job", but anyway that would be nice!

I also like reading e-mails which people all over the world send thanking me for my work on FSWizard and HSMAdvisor calculators.
Telling their success stories and suggesting new features.

Most seem very surprised when they send a question on weekend and receive an answer withing a couple of hours.

Often people send pictures of their work and links to their own web sites.

It is nice that more and more professional machinists are using my software, but seeing it help create a work of art is a special feeling.

One of recent customers Daniel Gentile, uses HSMAdvisor to calculate cutting parameters for his custom knife production business.

Here is what he has to say:

Quote:
HSMAdvisor enables me to efficiently do the math that saves me not just a lot of time as I can confidently often use higher speeds but also a lot of money, as I tend to break less of those expensive 2 and 3mm carbide tools that see a lot of use on my folder production. Also because I work with a dozen different materials - from D2 steel to Titanium to Bronze - and a lot of different cutter types and finish requirements it's just nice not to have to work with "guess-work" for the feeds and speeds.
