Here is a quick video explaining how to use this new feature.

Should you have any questions or recommendations please let me know via email or support forums.

Quick Video: Figuring the best Depth and Width of Cut with Performance Slider

September 26, 2015, 11:25 am by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

Proper machining depth and width of cut are just as important as proper Speeds and Feeds.

This is not only importanttant for professional machinists, who are machining on the edge of their tooling and setup capability, but also for hobbyists, who often face limits from the machine rigidity side of the equation.

HSMAdvisor Speed and Feed calculator has a unique tool used for figuring the best engagement values for each particular cut you are making.

It is called Performance Slider. And it adjusts expected load on the tool and machine depending on your preferred machining mode.

Check out this video I made that explains Performance Slider' functionality:

The. First. Ever. HSMAdvisor hook for MasterCAM X9

August 2, 2015, 7:06 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

The First Ever HSMAdvisor Speed and Feed Wizard hook for MasterCAM has been released today for everybody to download for free.

Getting it to this stage has been a titanic effort for me and I am going to put a lot more of it in the coming months: i need to get it to pretty much perfect state before i start forgetting how i did all those things.

Because of this each update i release will extend trial period by 30 days.

This will last for as long as needed to finish the bulk of developing it.

At this moment the following toolpaths are fully recognized:

  • Face Mill
  • Contour
  • Pocket
  • Drilling
  • Circle Mill
  • All 2D HST Toolpaths:
    Dynamic Milling
    Dynamic Area
    Blend Mill
    Peel Mill

The only exception is: Coolant parameters are getting lost somewhere in the process. So please double check it before posting!

Things to be added in the coming days/weeks/months:

  1. Fix Coolant
  2. Engraving
  3. Other Circular Toolpaths such as ThreadMilling etc.
  4. Conventional and HST 3D Toolpahs
  5. Turning

If you have any suggestions or find any bugs please let me know.

I would like to reassure my current customers that HSMAdvisor Hook is/will be included with your license once this all is set and done.

Please help me with your suggestions/bug reports make this thing even better for all of you!

Here are the latest 2 videos i uploaded to my Youtube chanel

Calculating cutting parameters for Face Milling, Saving Tool and Cut data and recalling it when needed:

Cheers. And a huge "thank you" to everyone who has been supporting me!

A customer shares his video of HSM machining

July 15, 2015, 8:45 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

It is no secret that i am trying to make my software fit the broadest possible group of people.
And while my much-respected hobby customers is a big deal for me, industrial machining is where HSMAdvisor really shines.

Recently a PracticalMachinist forum member Atomkinder posted a video of him machining something on his 1997 Fadal VMC.
Here is what he had to say:

I use it daily, and I can't think of a time it's let me down.
I second HSMAdvisor. I own my own seat (work doesn't have one) because I like it that much.

This isn't particularly special, but it is a 1997 Fadal VMC2216 box way machine. Removed a whole tool and something like 40% of the cycle time from the second operation of this part.

40% of the cycle time. Aint bad, is it?

In industrial settings, with such great savings HSMAdvisor may very well pay for itself within a day or less!

First FSWizard video!

January 17, 2015, 4:43 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

I have just uploaded my first FSWizard CNC MAchinists Speed and Feed Calculator video tutorial.

This is a quick walk through the basic functionality when using milling tools.

Please excuse my tired voice and occasional stuttering. This was my 9th take- every time either my computer crashed or i was interrupted by my kids running around and causing mess.

I am planning to release more videos. So please let me know what other topics i need to cover.

HSMAdvisor v1.120

December 27, 2014, 10:11 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

We have 2 new calculators available on Reference tab.
It is Oblique Triangle Calculator and a Fillet calculator.

I also fixed Floating Window's missing fields.

I have finally bought a proper microphone and was able to record a tutorial video, where i show a way to calculate speeds and feeds for pocketing in D2 tool steel and also calculate ramping feed rate.

during my meetings with shop programmers i have found out that some people did not really understand the functionality behind Helical Ramping calculator. A more detailed video on Circular Compensation and Ramping to follow.

This video is already on my YouTybe channel:

Successful High Speed Machining (HSM) Stainless Steel Part

November 28, 2014, 9:54 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

A couple of days ago I helped a gentleman by answering a few questions about using HSMAdvisor Speed and Feed Calculator to machine a 310 Stainless Steel piece using HSM techniques.

Today he created a post on PracticalMachinist forums walking us through his experience.
And he even took a video of the part being cut!

I would also like to say thanks to zero_divide for the help he gave me with the speed/feed and after using is HSMadvisor i suggest to everyone to give it a try its really worth it.

Endorsements like this is the best thing any software developer can hope for.

I always welcome any feedback regarding my software and never mind helping anyone, whether he is a novice, experienced machinist, my customer or not.

Thank you Sebastien, good luck to you!

HSMAdvisor v0.822

July 12, 2014, 5:06 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

A latest update to HSMAdvisor is available right now in the downloads section!

The main new thing is ability to assign custom or Tool Manufacturer-recommended Speeds and Feeds to tools saved in the database.
Please refer to this tutorial for a detailed walk-through on how this can be accomplished.

Why have manufacturer-recommended speeds and feeds when my calculator already does pretty much the same thing?
Simply because cutter geometry and composition varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. And tools made by different companies often vary in quality and performance.

Even things like cutter material and coatings vary in hardness and toughness.

Aside from this major update, little bugs were fixed.

Fixed and Improved:

  • New "Speed and feed source" indicator disappearing problem solved.

  • Fixed limits for drilling, taping and turning.

  • changed layout for Reference Calculators

Edit: I just uploaded a video showing how to add custom Speeds and Feeds to youtube.

Manufacturer-Recommended Speeds and Feeds in HSMAdvisor

July 12, 2014, 3:34 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

One of the latest additions to HSMAdvisor speed and feed calculator is the ability to set manufacturer-recommended speeds and feeds for work-piece materials and groups of materials.

Here is a YouTube video walk-through showing how to add S&F tables into the program https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJOgWfgy99U

HSMAdvisor uses Brand Name and Series Name to assign speed and chipload tables to tools.

A new "Speed and Feed Source" (S&F Source) indicator has been added to quickly tell user which speed and feed table is being used right now.
