HSMAdvisor v1.150 released

April 25, 2015, 11:04 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

New and updated features

  • New workpiece materials
Cutlery stainless steels have been added
  • Better scaling and control positioning on "Speeds and Feeds" page
  • Tool Database page now displays Libraries in multiple rows, which makes it easier to find stuff.
  • HSMAdvisor now installs by default into "Program Files (x86)" folder
It will still copy data files into your "AppDataRoamingHSMAdvisor" folder. So it will still pick up your old tool library and license file.
  • HSMAdvisor.ZIP archive now does not contain installer files, but rather ready-to use application folders, which you can unpack and use without installation.

As usual check our downloads page to get the update.

Now i know you are wondering when i will release updates to the mobile versions as well.
That should (hopefully) be done by this Monday.

Cheers!

I would like to thank everyone who has helped with the development of our software by investing your time and money, making suggestions, reporting bugs, recommending our software on various professional online message boards and to your colleagues.

Every bit of money I charge for our software goes back to development.

Unlike most other software developers, who often hold back on features to not allow their products to compete with each-other, every useful feature available on mobile FSWizard goes to the desktop-based HSMAdvisor and vise-versa. Even if it ends up hurting overall sales.

I was the first developer who was able to bring a speed and feed calculator as complex as FSWizard to the mobile platform and I have just uploaded another update to FSWizard Mobile app, that makes it even more powerful. Almost as powerful in fact as HSMAdvisor.

Why bother? Why create a competing product that does almost as much, but costs almost 3 times cheaper?

Because I know that most of our mobile users are not only unable to buy a more expensive desktop product, but they are also often younger, less experienced and hold machinist positions without access to desktop computers.

These users deserve every help they need to grow skills and their careers.

And when they grow to be CNC Programmers and get to sit in the office, they would need something more convenient and more powerful.

I hope they then remember that the same guy who develops FSWizard:Mobile also develops an even cooler desktop application called HSMAdvisor, that will certainly help keep their bosses even happier than before!

Once again, thank you, guys. Please have a Safe and Prosperous New Year.

Here is the list of recent changes to FWizard:Mobile v1.38

HSMAdvisor Status Update

December 23, 2014, 6:09 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

First of all Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !

There has been a spur in development in the last couple of weeks.
Mainly due to the fact that i took a vacation from my day job.

I also used this time to pay a visit to some businesses operating in the area to get some feedback on my software, hear out their needs and desires.

I have not been able to post about the latest updates, so let's summarize what we have at this moment in the latest v1.110 update

  • New 90 Degree metric Flat Head screw reference tool
  • Ability to use comma sign instead of dot as a decimal point.
HSMAdvisor will still convert comma to dot, but now it treats input properly
This was done to accommodate users whose language settings use comma on their numpad
  • Fixed scaling for all DPI types.
  • Added a bunch of materials like Machinable Wax, Plywood, some Steels etc.
  • Improved and made more predictable loading of tools and cuts from the database
  • Made improvements to Machine definition window.

Most of the work has been finished on the CAM integration feature.
If any of you, my users, feel like you want the FREE integration with their favorite CAM, please nag your CAM support and/or sales desk!!

........

........

Now did I mention I plan on NOT changing a dime for the integration feature?

If not, then let me repeat it again.

CAM Integration feature will come at no price for my users!

So if i were you, i would file support tickets (make some phone calls, write letters) to your CAM providers and ask them to consider enabling their software to speak with mine.

My contact details can be found here: http://hsmadvisor.com/index.php?page=help&shell_id=241&article_id=4426

Have a nice New Year!

Status Updates

October 31, 2014, 8:18 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

We have changed a Web-Server hosting company

This will translate to much better loading times for our users. Especially those who use the FSWizard:Online Calculator

Thank you for patience.

Our Halloween Sale is now Officially Over

Once again I would like to thank everyone who invested into development of this software.

Each one of you is not just a customer, but a co-creator. Thanks to your contributions our software gets better and better with every release.
And all of it comes back to our users in a form of features they have suggested or asked for.

At this point in time i can see the results of adding the subscription-based floating licensing model.
NOT surprisingly the Permanent License Type is still more popular than the subscription-based one.

Perhaps it is attributed to the fact that most people only use HSMAdvisor on one computer anyway, which most of the time is their CAD/CAM station and relatively few people need to move their seat from one computer to another.

More User Interface Improvements are Coming

I am in the process of re-vising the work-flow of loading a Tool/Cut From the database.

Tool and Cut drop down lists will disappear from the screen. Instead a couple of buttons will be added that would allow loading a Tool/Cut from the database, editing/viewing parameters etc.

This should greatly unload the screen and make things easier to read.

Have a good and productive day!

HSMAdvisor v0.900

October 28, 2014, 8:21 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

New version 0.900 includes one big improvement:

A new "Load Tool" button was added on the Toll Data panel.
When you click on that button, a brand-new "Select Tool/Cut" dialog box appears.

Using this dialog box you can quickly find and load any Tool/Cut from your Tool Database:

When you click on the "Toll Library" header, panel expands allowing user to filter out the tools and cuts that he wishes to see.

Also Expand All checkbox allows to expand all tools on the table.

In the future updates i am planning to completely replace the functionality of the two separate Tool and Cut Drop-Down lists with this single dialog window.

If you have any feedback, positive or negative or any ideas, please let me know!

Cheers!

Another Week left on this sale! What's to come?

July 27, 2014, 10:42 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

The current "15% Off HSMAdvisor" sale will run until August 4th.

Which here in Ontario is a statutory holiday.

I am not really sure what we are celebrating, but hey, as long as i get paid for staying at home, i don't care.

Just wanted to thank everyone for great support, for investing into YOUR software and for telling your friends and colleagues about it.

I strongly believe our pricing and conditions are VERY competitive and more and more of you agree with me on that every day. I am not even talking about the part that should You need anything improved, fixed or questions answered, i am always available.

I also wanted to let you in in what is coming regarding HSMAdvisor Speed and Feed software.

  • The next course of action for me will be adding surface finish calculators to the FSWizard page.
I have received a few requests for that, and about to start rolling those out.
  • I will revisit myCut DB page.
Tool database will have filters, that would allow users to only see the tools they need.
You will be able to choose what tool table columns you want to see.
I will add tool manager window that will allow to quickly show which tools need to be ordered. And create a purchase order right on the spot. Which you would be able to either export to excel, Word or just print out right away.
  • I am still bearing the idea of a so-called group knowledge.
I am not going to discuss what exactly i am thinking about. But this, if implemented would radically improve decision-making when it comes to machining.
This last part is going to be the hardest one and involve great deal of plain hard work, so i am going to put it on a back-burner for now.

As you see we have lots more to come. And we are not even on to version 1.0 !

And the best part is, if you pitch in now, you will be able to enjoy all the updates and features i am talking about for free!

Take care.

Have a save work week!

HSMAdvisor v0.822

July 12, 2014, 5:06 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

A latest update to HSMAdvisor is available right now in the downloads section!

The main new thing is ability to assign custom or Tool Manufacturer-recommended Speeds and Feeds to tools saved in the database.
Please refer to this tutorial for a detailed walk-through on how this can be accomplished.

Why have manufacturer-recommended speeds and feeds when my calculator already does pretty much the same thing?
Simply because cutter geometry and composition varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. And tools made by different companies often vary in quality and performance.

Even things like cutter material and coatings vary in hardness and toughness.

Aside from this major update, little bugs were fixed.

Fixed and Improved:

  • New "Speed and feed source" indicator disappearing problem solved.

  • Fixed limits for drilling, taping and turning.

  • changed layout for Reference Calculators

Edit: I just uploaded a video showing how to add custom Speeds and Feeds to youtube.

HSMAdvisor v0.810

May 25, 2014, 12:34 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

New Things:

  • New "Indexable Drill" Tool Type
  • Some tool will now have Usage Tips in the warning box, IE new Indexable Drill Tool type will have recommendations to use through coolant.
  • New Buttons on Tool Geometry pane:
[Edit As New] button allows to quickly drop current tool and use its data to create a new one
[Add Tool] Allows to quickly add tool to the library of your choise
  • Edit/Add Tool dialog now allows you to choose tool library when you add or edit tool information data into the database

Whats fixed:

  • On systems where comma (,) is used to in place of a decimal point, selecting Tap tool type would throw an error.
This glitch has been fixed in this update.
