HSMA_MC2018_SS.jpg

Hello everybody!!

Hope each one of you had a lot of fun during the holidays!
I have just uploaded HSMAdvisor version 1.521 but because of huge amount of changes, i will not release it to the wild right away.

There is a week or so of testing in it as I see it.
Any one of you could help me out a bunch by downloading and  trying the updates.

Plugins: HSMAdvisor for MasterCAM

Standalone: HSMAdvisor

Let me know if you find anything wrong with it!

Cheers!

New Educational HSMAdvisor Licenses

October 18, 2017, 5:01 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)
IMAG1296.jpg

Ever since we stopped offering free educational licenses, there has been steady demand for either free or discounted license options for colleges and schools.

We could not give out free licenses any longer because they still cost money in hosting and support.

So today after a lot of consideration we decided  to start offering special Educational HSMAdvisor License Package

CNC Machining Tool Material and Coating Application Guide

We have many helpful articles over at HSMAdvisor Help portal. But beacuse of that very reason not many website visitors actually read any of them.
It is a pitty that most advanced users will never actually visit the help section, because they already know how to operate HSMAdvisor.

And this particular one, I believe, is too useful (I just updated it to include more info) for my customers and other machinists to keep it burried in some help section that few ever read.

So here you go:

Running HSMAdvisor on Linux

April 17, 2017, 8:56 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)
winehq_logo_glass.png

Previously when someone asked me whether HSMAdvisor works on linux or Mac I would steer them towards using VirtualBox or Parallels or some other virtual machine to run HSMAdvisor in the virtual Windows box.

As it turns out it is not always necessary.

Our customer has just managed to successfully run HSMA on Linux using package called Wine.

All he had to do was to use wine in 32 bit mode.

I, personally, did not think it was possible to run an app as complex as HSMAdvisor on linux without any modifications on my side. But i was wrong!

Here is a helpful link if you are running 64 bit version of linux and your Wine refuses to launch HSMAdvisor in 32 bit mode:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/136714/how-to-force-wine-into-acting-like-32-bit-windows-on-64-bit-ubuntu

Reportedly Reference and Geometry tabs do not work. But this is not surprising, since they use Internet Explorer to show the information.

Also pressing ENTER key causes the app to crash.

I am going to install a test Linux system on my workstation in the near future and figure out how to fix those issues and make Non-Windows support more readily available.

On another news.

Having made a new FSWizard App design and right before publishing. I decided to rewrite the whole core almost from scratch.

This was needed to make room for new modules like User Tool Libraries and Machine Profiles.

The work is going ahead at full speed and in due time i will roll our the brand new spanking FSWizard!

A Total Guide into Plunging and Ramping

April 4, 2017, 7:33 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

Before we start milling away our stock we first need to get down to the required depth.

This is not a problem with external features when we can plunge outside.

When machining closed pockets, however, we need to find a way to get down to the machining depth first.

As usual there are several ways to get the job done. The plunging methods listed here are not ordered by their preference.

For various machining operations on different materials some may be more preferable than others.

Straight Plunging into a larger Pre-Drilled hole

This is one the best ones in my opinion.
Very few machining modes can compete in effectiveness with drilling and this method will get you the best combined tool life on most materials and (in case of many deep pockets) the least machining time, even when tool change time is factored in.

Uninstall Feedback

March 23, 2017, 8:22 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

Out of all kinds of feedback forms on HSMAdvisor (we have Forums, User Feedback and Unistall Feedback) web site the only one I dread opening is the "Uninstall Feedback".

When someone uninstalls HSMAdvisor, on the last step the program asks to provide the final feedback to maybe help us make HSMAdvisor better.

I do not like reading this form very much because it means that would-be users left in some way dissatisfied with the program.

And that really breaks my heart!

Among the most common answers is stuff like "does not support metric" even though IT VERY MUCH SUPPORTS METRIC.
We have, without a doubt, one of the most flexible units system of all machining-related software products.
I guess I have to improve in helping people learn how to use many unit switches within the program.

But the one that stood out is this one:

Quote:
Your software is AWESOME. I'm just uninstalling so I can reinstall on another machine. Thanks for making a great product!

Thank you Jeremy! Really made my day!

Just a heads-up.

Another update is coming this weekend.
I am adding some materials and this threads specification drawing:

Requested by one of the users, I am sure it will be a big help.

HSMAdvisor v1.501

November 26, 2016, 11:51 am by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)
RussianLanguage.PNG

Every time we add a tenth to HSMAdvisor version number our users know we are up to something completely new and exciting!

Please welcome HSMAdvisor 1.5

Now with International Language support!

I know this feature might not be as interesting to our English-speaking users, but I believe it is a major milestone in maturity of any application.

I have been semi-secretly working on this feature for the past year or so.

Let me just quickly show you how to switch between languages

  • Download and install HSMAdvisor 1.5 as usual
  • Launch HSMAdvisor and go to Settings->General
  • Find button called "Select Language" and click on it
  • Simply select an available language from the list and click OK
  • You will be offered to shut down HSMAdvisor as you can not right now apply the new language mid-flight.
  • When you launch HSMAdvisor again, the language of the User Interface will be of that you have previously selected

If you do not find your native language in the list, do not get upset!
You can easily create your own translation. The proper process for translating HSMAdvior to other languages is described here: http://hsmadvisor.com/?page=help&shell_id=241&article_id=4883_international-language-support

What is next

  • In the coming months we will introduce tools for creating translations on the fly without the need to use a third-party tool.
  • We will add ability for users to earn their free HSMAdvisor license by participating in translation program.
  • And the main thing...

We will continue our hard work to stay the best software tool for CNC machinists!

By the way here are other changes that were introduced in this update:

  • Fixed typos and improved the look of ToolTip messages
  • Fixed 0 - WOC reset when changing tool type

Best Regards

HSM Machining Website Updates

September 3, 2016, 11:02 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

As you may have noticed there have been changes in the look of his very web site.

Here is what has been changed and improved:

  • I got tired of it's old appearance, improved layout and changed styles.
  • Improved and updated social buttons throughout the website.
  • Redesigned Reference page and added GD&T Interactive Reference

GD&T Reference has been available in our FSWizard Mobile app and HSMAdvisor Speed and Feed Calculator for some time now and adding it to this website was a next logical step.

There is more changes coming. But i will not tell you what those are because competition is watching :)

By the way...

When you find useful information on this website, please help others too and share it with your peers using the new social buttons!

This mainstream "social" thing has been overlooked by me in the past and not many people are aware of our great software and resources for machinists.

Spread the word and help this project do even better!

Rev Up Your Tools - Boost the Productivity!

HSMA_LongAluminum.PNG

As unhappy I am to learn that something may be wrong with the software I develop and love, negative feedback is essential in learning whether i am doing everything right.

So a couple of days ago I received an email from a somewhat disappointed user.

He (lets call him Peter) was complaining that HSMAdvisor calculator gave him "excessively high" speeds and feeds for his 3/4" 4 flute 3.0 LOC  end mill in aluminum.

With the data Peter entered he was getting around 10000 RPM(SFPM 2117) and the feed of 270 inches per minute while usual practice in the shop was side-milling aluminum at that (2.8" axial) depth at only 325 SFM

After double-checking the numbers I replied that in fact his numbers seemed very slow and if for some reason he HAD to run that slow (heck, i machine most steels faster than 325 SFM) due to some conditions, perhaps, he was ought to change the conditions themselves.

This is what I am getting for Peter's end mill setup:

HSMAdvisor : Free and Lite versions now available starting v1.400 !

July 10, 2016, 9:11 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

Get it here if you have not already : Download HSMAdvisor Advanced Speed and Feed Calculator

New Licensing options!

  • From now on expired floating licenses do not stop working. We just limit your available Horse Power by the number of years in your subscription. If you had 1 year, then you will have 1HP power limit. etc
  • Expired Trial versions also do not stop working.
You will be given ONE material option to work with and the rest of the functions will continue working as usual.

This means that from now on the access to Tool Database and Reference functions is completely free no matter whether you paid for our software or not!

This also means that Expired Floating licenses roll back to "Lite" mode where your machine power is limited by the number of years in your subscription.

A single 1 year subscription will buy you one year of unlimited use and then your machine power will be limited by whatever many years you have been subscribed for.
It will in fact work as a more expensive lifetime subscription!

Similarly a 3 year subscription will give you unlimited use for 3 years after which your power will be limited by 3 Horse Power.

In both cases You will also get all the updates and support that naturally comes with all paid options!

I believe this will be a great help for those running light underpowered machines like Tormach 770, Carbide 3d and such.
