CNC Machining Tool Material and Coating Application Guide

July 21, 2017, 9:47 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)
tool_mat_list.png

We have many helpful articles over at HSMAdvisor Help portal. But beacuse of that very reason not many website visitors actually read any of them.
It is a pitty that most advanced users will never actually visit the help section, because they already know how to operate HSMAdvisor.

And this particular one, I believe, is too useful (I just updated it to include more info) for my customers and other machinists to keep it burried in some help section that few ever read.

So here you go:

A Total Guide into Plunging and Ramping

April 4, 2017, 7:33 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

Before we start milling away our stock we first need to get down to the required depth.

This is not a problem with external features when we can plunge outside.

When machining closed pockets, however, we need to find a way to get down to the machining depth first.

As usual there are several ways to get the job done. The plunging methods listed here are not ordered by their preference.

For various machining operations on different materials some may be more preferable than others.

Straight Plunging into a larger Pre-Drilled hole

This is one the best ones in my opinion.
Very few machining modes can compete in effectiveness with drilling and this method will get you the best combined tool life on most materials and (in case of many deep pockets) the least machining time, even when tool change time is factored in.

Combating Chatter: 4 reasons to NOT reduce your feedrate

April 30, 2016, 6:58 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)
HarndenedLayer.png

We all have heard hundreds of times that when chatter is happening during machining, we should reduce our feed rate. The same advice we also hear for compensating for extra-long tools and unstable setups.

Let me explain why I think this is mostly incorrect.

Let’s list  the effects of reducing the feed rate:

  1. Reduces tool life.
  2. Reduces productivity.
  3. Increases deflection.
  4. Causes chatter.

Let me explain from my own experience and research I have made each of these points and a simple way to avoid chatter's adverse effects.

Tesla Model 3: Is This The End?

April 2, 2016, 12:04 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

There have been purely electric cars long before the Tesla Model 3.

But Tesla has made it cool. Sort of like how Apple made the iPhone cool, Tesla made not just gas-free, environment-saving cars. It made cool high-performance vehicles that are fun to drive.

And nobody really cares that Chevy Volt has already been available for years for a comparable price. Couple of days since its unveil, the new Model 3 has already outsold the Volt. Not a small feat, considering, they are only going to start delivering in about a year!

But Tesla, like Apple, like Amazon is in many ways a disruptive technology.

A customer shares his video of HSM machining

July 15, 2015, 8:45 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

It is no secret that i am trying to make my software fit the broadest possible group of people.
And while my much-respected hobby customers is a big deal for me, industrial machining is where HSMAdvisor really shines.

Recently a PracticalMachinist forum member Atomkinder posted a video of him machining something on his 1997 Fadal VMC.
Here is what he had to say:

I use it daily, and I can't think of a time it's let me down.
I second HSMAdvisor. I own my own seat (work doesn't have one) because I like it that much.

This isn't particularly special, but it is a 1997 Fadal VMC2216 box way machine. Removed a whole tool and something like 40% of the cycle time from the second operation of this part.

40% of the cycle time. Aint bad, is it?

In industrial settings, with such great savings HSMAdvisor may very well pay for itself within a day or less!

Upgrades to the Online Store

July 2, 2015, 12:43 am by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

I have made some changes to the HSMAdvisor online store.

As of now users can purchase any number of seats they want.

Be it 1,2, 5 or 50. Does not matter any more. User gets to choose the number he wants. A progressive 25% discount will be applied on purchases of multiple seats.

Which means discount will start from 25% for 2 seats and end with 37% for 50 seats.

This should help great deal for people who want some odd number of seats.

And just a remainder: the current 15% on over 90$ is still active until July 4.

Cheers!

Its HSMAdvisor Sale Time!

June 21, 2015, 10:40 am by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

We have not had any discounts for almost half a year.

I think it ifs time for a sale.

Check out our HSMAdvisor web store page for currently available deals.

Basically everything above $90 is on 15% sale until Fourth of July.

Happy Canada Day and Happy Fourth Of July!

November 18, 2014, 11:26 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

Amid the huge amount of work that has been put lately into development of HSMAdvisor and FSWizard Speed and Feed Calculators, I have completely forgot to mention something important.

Since version 1.37 iOS (as well as Android) version of FSWizard Lite Mobile calculator can be "unlocked" and upgraded to the full PRO version for free!

For that, you need to purchase an eligible License Package from our HSMAdvisor Online Store and follow these steps to enable the PRO features on your Android or iOS device: FSWizard PRO Bundled with HSMAdvisor
