Gonna leave it here because someone might find it useful and my googling didn't come up with the answers that I liked.

So. I successfully switched my TerraMaster D2-310 from RAID1 to SINGLE mode, where each physical drive corresponds to a distinct logical one. Despite multiple sources stating that such a switch requires wiping the drives, I found a method that worked for me. Keep in mind that results may vary, and this might not apply to all enclosures.

Here are the steps:

  1. Power down the enclosure, disconnect it from your PC, and remove Drive 2 from the enclosure.

  2. Connect Drive 2 to your PC motherboard using a SATA cable.

  3. Turn on your PC and ensure Drive 2 functions properly, allowing you to read and write data.

  4. With the enclosure powered off, switch the MODE setting on the back of the device to SINGLE mode. WARNING: Do not, DO NOT press the Reset button, as it will most likely wipe your drive!

  5. Power on the enclosure with Drive 1 inside and connect it to the same PC where Drive 2 is already connected.

  6. Windows cannot mount Drive 1 due to its signature matching that of Drive 2, which is desired.

  7. Open Disk Management, locate your "Offline Disk," right-click on it, and select "Online." This action changes the signature of Drive 1, effectively removing it from RAID.

  8. You can now navigate to the root of each disk and delete any hidden folders containing RAID information. I removed the 2 folders starting with a "." (dot).

That's it. Aside from other obvious benefits of NOT having to tie 2 drives together, I believe I will get better longevity of my second drive now because I will use it to back up only the important stuff once a day.

What Workers?

FSWizard: Online now has Service workers!

It is a cool new technology that allows otherwise online applications to run completely offline.

From now on FSWizard will be able to cache all of its files on your mobile or PC device.

Also a reminder: you can "Install" FSWizard right from your browser by going to menu and hitting "Add to Home Screen"
Then FSWizard will be able to run in full-screen mode.

Depending on your usage, Chrome may actually prompt you to do that automatically.

Cheers!

5 Ways HSMAdvisor Uses Internt for the Benefit of Machinists

July 24, 2016, 11:41 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

This is 21st century and we all live in the age of the Internet.

While some software developers claim to use it for the benefit of the customers they in fact only care about license protection benefits it can provide.

Here is how HSMAdvisor Speed and Feed Calculator uses the big WWW for the benefit of its users:

  1. Tool Database and Cutting Data Sharing
Not many users realise that simply placing the Tool Data Base file on a shared network drive or service like DropBox or Google Drive will keep their Tool DB in sync on all of their computers running HSMAdvisor.
Oh, regarding the "running on multiple computers" thing.....
  2. Floating License allows users to run a single seat of HSMAdvisor on multiple computers non concurrently.
All you need is internet connection! Permanent Licenses do not even need internet connection at all.
  3. Cloud-Hosted Machine Profiles.
Machine Profiles are important part of out calculator tool. Among other things they allow to prevent machine stalls and resulting machine damage and tool breakage.
You can upload your Machine Profiles to HSMAdvisor Cloud for Public or Private access.
Or you can request a machine profile to be added and I will upload it for you to easily download.
All within the HSMAdvisor Machine Definition dialog!
  4. Cut Cloud. The place to get other Machinist's experience at your fingertips.
Another great feature that we are actively developing right now is the Cut Cloud.
It allows Machinists to share their cutting experience with other HSMAdvisor users.
It is still in development but shortly we are going to populate out public online library (Cut Cloud) with cutting data from popular tool manufacturers.
Anyone running HSMAdvisor will be able to just dial in their cutting tool, connect to the Cloud and see how others run their tools in similar cutting conditions on similar machines.
  5. Immediate and Accurate Licensing.
A few times I got emails from disappointed machinists who were not aware of HSMAdvisor and thus chose a competing software product.
They all were complaining about misleading Licensing schemes some software developers were using that hindered their work. Things ranged from not being able to register their seats for hours after completing the purchase to having to keep their computers online almost uninterruptedly (despite claims it could run offline for weeks) to keep their software running.
HSMAdvisor uses transparent Permanent and Floating Licensing scheme that will not leave you hanging.
All purchases are handled automatically and our new customers do not need to wait for a next business day to get their purchase functioning.
We constantly work on making your experience as flawless as possible and do not linger on past achievements.

There is a lot more work planned and already in progress.

In the age when everyone is talking about how internet is turning the world around we are doing our small part in making it happen!

Thank you, everybody for your support and feedback!

Tool_Length_Offset.PNG

Did you know there are three ways you can touch off your tools?

Because of how Machine Offsets add up, there are several ways CNC machinists can set their Tool and Work Offsets.

This is especially true for Tool Length Offsets.

Tool Offsets can be either Positive or Negative.
Depending on your Machine Shop equipment you should use one or the other.

Regardless of how you set your tool length offset, you apply it the same way.
Right after the tool change and after turning on your spindle and moving to your X Y position above the part.
The very first absolute Z movement should be the line where you apply the tool length offset.

Code
T15 M6; (TOOL CHANGE)
G0 G54 G90 X1.0 Y1.5 S1500 M3;(APPLY WORK OFFSET, MOVE TO THE FIRST POSITION, TURN ON THE SPINDLE)
G43 Z2.0 H15; (APPLY TOOL LENGTH OFFSET WHILE MOVING TO 2.0" ABOVE THE PART)
G0 Z0.1 M08;(MOVE TO FEED HEIGHT AND CARRY ON WITH THE PROGRAM..)

Positive Tool Offsets (gage line tool length offsets)

In the case of Positive Tool Offsets, the offset represents the Length of the tool measured as a distance from the Gauge Line of the spindle (typically spindle nose) to the tip of the tool. The longer the tool, the larger your Tool Length offset will be.

Saving a Web Page as Plugin in HSMAdvisor

May 4, 2014, 4:38 pm by Eldar Gerfanov (Admin)

Plugins Tab now has functionality to Download and Save webpages to your computer, so they are always available offline.

There is now an address bar on the bottom of the screen.
If you enter URL address and click go, you can load website in a new tab.

You can save it as one page by right-clicking on corresponding tab and selecting "Save Page on Disk":

Alternatively you can save your webpage in ".mht" format using Internet Explorer into HSMAdvisor\plugins\ folder.

Next time you launch HSMAdvisor, your saved web page will show up in Plugins Tab.

This is where all plugins are saved:

You can use *.HTML, *.HTM, *.MHT and *.TXT files.

If you have any Microsoft Word documents you would like to keep there as well, you can save them "As Web Page" and copy to the plugins folder.
