New User: Possible Suggestions

Hi there

I'm a new user - great product, thanks for making it available for all to test & use.

I'll admit I need to spend some more time with your product, so please correct me if I'm missing something (or haven't seen it yet). Maybe I'll find that it isn't totally necessary, but have you thought about adding a section to the calculator with correction factors for spindle type (i.e.: cat 40, 50, etc.) and/or workpiece rigidity (rigid -to- weak).

Thanks again, keep up the great work.
-Jason

Whoops...

Don't know if I posted this to the correct area. I should have mentioned this was pertaining to the download version of "HSMAdvisor"

Thanks again

Hello,
Thanks for clarification.
Questions related directly to HSMAdvisor should be posted in HSMAdvisor support forum.
Thread will be moved there.....

To answer the question.
I do not see any use in having to specify yet another variable.
Whether it is cat40 or cat50 machine will only have the amount of power it has.
True, rigidity will be different, but it will not affect endmills below 5/8" in diameter.
Besides high powered spindles are usually cat50.

Difference between cat40 and 50 is rigidity.
To address rigidity pro lens there is a special slider called Cutter performace.
It allows you to reduce cutting depth when you feel like rigidity of either the setup or machine is not adequate.

I recommend moving that slider all the way to the left for hi-performace >3/4 endmills on cat40 machines.
Slider is located in Advanced Tool Settings tab.

Hope this answers your question.

Understood, Thanks for taking the time to clarify.

Yea, on CAT40 vs. CAT50 rigidity was what I was the main thing I was trying to convey. I'd seen the "tool performance" slider but hadn't considered it as a machine (or holder/spindle) correction for rigidity being that its a parameter under the "Tool Settings" rather than the "Machine Limits" & it seemed to reset for each new cut defined. After your message & playing with it a little I realize I can change my settings to not "reset" the "cutter performance" & in-effect force a reduction to stick if, say, I have a weak machine (and then be able to tweak as needed per cut, although the "tweak" would become the new value held for next time).

I'd still wonder if it wouldn't make sense to have this be part of the "Machine Limits" - but understand wanting to avoid redundant inputs. I'll just leave that up to your consideration.

Thanks again for your time

You are welcome.
I find my self working with Performance slider quite often.
Certainly often enough to not want to go to machine settings every time i need to adjust it a little bit.

Your suggestion however is a valid one.
Maybe in the future i will add some sort of "Default Performance Level" inside machine settings, so instead of going to default=1x it can be set to any number. Or maybe just move the slider into machine limits area.

But again simply unchecking "Reset Tool Overrides" box will serve the same purpose.

At this point everything and anything can be done, but i have to try to reduce number of user inputs to reduce possibility of screw-ups (not noticing performance is set to 2x, for example).
Hence the resetting of cutter data whenever a new tool is selected.

Thanks for the suggestion i will keep that in mind.
